In previous Star Wars films, Jedi roles were often played by white actors. Therefore, the news of casting the first Asian actor for a Jedi role caused a stir in the international fandom of Star Wars.

On May 29th (local time), director Headland also pointed out in an interview with the foreign newspaper New York Times, saying “I don’t consider anyone who makes prejudice, racism or hate remarks a fan of Star Wars”.

Regarding this issue, Lee Jung-jae said, “I think such debates arose naturally as the ‘Star Wars’ series has many passionate fans”, adding “The setting is in space and there are also many alien characters, right? I believe that everyone can freely think as they wish”.
