Lee Joon-gi Talks About Filming Reunion Scene With Shin Se-kyung In “Arthdal Chronicle 2”, “I Cried A Lot”

Lee Joon-gi commented on his character and Eunseom & Tanya’s reunion scene in “The Sword of Aramun”

On October 3rd, Disney+ Korea’s official YouTube channel released “Arthdal Chronicle 2: The Sword of Aramun – Commentary” video. 

Set in the world 8 years after Tagon (Jang Dong-gun) took the throne, this season continues the myth of Arthdal with the fateful stories of Tagon, Eunseom (Lee Joon-gi), Tanya (Shin Se-kyung), and Tae Alha (Kim Ok-vin) on the ancient land called Arth.

The commentary video shows the four actors sharing behind-the-scenes stories and explaining the main points about the main scenes in episodes 1 – 4 of “The Sword of Aramun”. 

First, they revealed how process of building their characters in this season. Jang Dong-gun said, “After 8 years, Tagon has become a little more mature. I tried to show his anxious and sensitive appearance as a person with all the power”. Lee Joon-gi shared, “Eunseom changed a lot after witnessing so many sacrifices in front of his eyes. I tried to portray a flexible side as he now knows how to control others’ psychology and make processes to reach Tagon”. Shin Se-kyung explained, “I wanted to show the audience how Tanya has grown and realized her position”. Kim Ok-vin added, “Tae Alha was a lively character 8 years ago, but she is more mature and consistent now”

The four also honestly confessed how they felt on the set. Lee Joon-gi said, “Everyone liked Saya better than Eunseom. They always told me to quickly dress up and transform into Saya”, adding “The ways people looked at me as Eunseom and as Saya were different. As an actor who played two roles at a time, their reactions made me feel confident in my performances.”

They went on discussing famous scenes in episode 2, Eunseom and Tanya’s reunion after 8 years in episode 3, and the ending of episode 4. 

Recalling when he filmed the reunion scene, Lee Joon-gi said, “I cried a lot. There were many NGs for that scene because I kept shedding tears. My tears came out as soon as I saw Tanya. The director and staff even had to ask me to control my emotions. I cried just by seeing her walk”.

The actors expressed satisfaction about the ending of episode 4 with spectacular action scenes, Shin Se-kyung’s charisma, and their explosive synergy. Shin Se-kyung, who did a very long line, commented, “I think I can still do it”, drawing laughter. Lee Joon-gi said, “It was the scene where all four of us had to express our emotions. I tried to do well and keep the balance”.
