Actress Lee Joo Bin, who debuted in 2017, has stepped into her second lead role with tvN’s new Monday-Tuesday drama Spring Fever. Following a string of lackluster performances in past works, this latest project is being viewed as a critical opportunity for her to re-establish herself as a leading actress.
Spring Fever, tvN’s first K-drama of 2026, tells the story of Yoon Bom (played by Lee Joo Bin), a high school teacher who keeps her true self guarded, and Seon Jae Gyu (played by Ahn Bo Hyun), a passionate man with a fiery heart. The series centers around their complex romance and is Lee’s first lead since The Divorce Insurance, where she starred opposite Lee Dong Wook.
Despite high expectations for The Divorce Insurance, it disappointed with a record-low rating of just 0.9%, failing to make an impact. Lee also appeared in KBS’s Twelve, which opened strong at 8.1% but quickly fell, ending with just 2.4%. While she wasn’t the main lead in Twelve, the overall performance of the drama still cast a shadow over her growing resume.
Originally an aspiring idol, Lee Joo Bin transitioned to acting in 2017, gradually building her reputation with supporting roles in well-known series such as Be Melodramatic, Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area, and Queen of Tears. However, despite her notable presence in these secondary roles, she has yet to match that success as a lead.
Now with Spring Fever, she faces a pivotal moment. An industry insider noted, “Being a lead demands more than just acting ability it’s about presence, chemistry, and the power to carry a show. For Lee Joo Bin, this drama is a crucial test to prove whether she truly has that capacity.”
So far, with two episodes aired, Spring Fever has recorded ratings in the 4% range, signaling a stable start. Viewers have responded positively to her chemistry with Ahn Bo Hyun and her performance has been met with cautious optimism.
As the drama unfolds, all eyes are on whether Lee Joo Bin can break away from past disappointments and finally establish herself as a dependable lead actress in the Korean drama scene.
