Singer and television personality Lee Hyo-ri showcased her trademark honesty while discussing her role as an MC on JTBC’s new dating reality show, Love War. Speaking during the program’s online press conference on June 23, Lee Hyo-ri reflected on her own romantic experiences and how they help her relate to couples facing relationship crises.
Lee Hyo-ri, who has been married to musician Lee Sang-soon for 13 years, was asked whether it was difficult to understand couples on the verge of breaking up given her stable married life. She responded candidly: “I don’t think there’s any need to worry about that because I’ve had a variety of dating experiences.”

The star added that although marriage effectively brought an end to her dating life, her past relationships still allow her to empathize with the struggles participants face. “I’ve stopped dating, but I have those past experiences. The only thing is that I’ve been away from the dating scene for so long. Watching the program, I find myself thinking, ‘So these are the kinds of problems people face these days,’ or ‘This is what people are suffering over now.’” She explained that she has enjoyed viewing the show from the same perspective as ordinary viewers.
Lee Hyo-ri also admitted that she initially questioned the motivations of people appearing on the show. “I had some doubts. I wondered why they wanted to appear on television. I thought maybe they wanted to become famous.”
However, her perception changed after filming began. According to Lee Hyo-ri, the participants genuinely wanted advice and were eager to gain an objective view of their relationships. “They come with real concerns. They genuinely want to hear our solutions and see themselves objectively.”

She revealed that some couples even ended their relationships during filming, convincing her that the emotions and conflicts featured on the show are authentic. “I dislike anything fake, so seeing that made me think, ‘This is real.’ It made filming very interesting.”
Lee Hyo-ri also joked that while marriage means she can no longer experience the excitement of dating firsthand, the program allows her to enjoy it indirectly. “There was a part of me that felt a little disappointed because I can’t have dating experiences anymore, but I’m finding vicarious satisfaction through this show.” She encouraged married viewers to tune in as well, suggesting that the series offers insights and entertainment for people in all stages of relationships.

Premiering on June 23, Love War follows troubled couples on the brink of separation as they seek guidance and mediation. The show is hosted by self-proclaimed relationship experts Lee Hyo-ri, Seo Jang-hoon, and Kim Hee-chul, who meet the couples, hear both sides of the story, and attempt to help them resolve their conflicts or decide whether it’s time to part ways.
With Lee Hyo-ri’s candid commentary and personal perspective on love and relationships, the new reality show is expected to draw considerable attention from viewers.
