Lee Byung Hun described how he played a character with a fear of flying in “Emergency Declaration”

Lee Byung Hun himself actually experienced symptoms of panic disorder during a flight.

On July 25th, a press conference of director Han Jae Rim’s movie “Emergency Declaration” was held at Megabox COEX, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, with the attendance of the director and cast members.

On this day, Lee Byung Hun said, “My character did not develop panic disorder, but rather a person who developed a phobia of flying for some reason. I wanted that to be expressed to some extent.”

Lee Byung Hun confessed, “I actually experienced panic disorder on an airplane in my mid-20s.” He continued, “I’ve actually experienced feelings and symptoms of panic disorder several times since then, and I wanted to express those feelings for them to be felt by the audience.”

He added that actual experience of panic disorder in real life helped him with the portrayal of his character, saying “Breaths when you are in pain, anxious eyes, and the medicine you always carry with you, these things are not so unfamiliar to me.”

“Emergency Declaration” will be released in theaters on August 3rd.
