LE SSERAFIM’s Eunchae Received Mixed Reactions For “Mocking” The Hard Life Of Students Her Age

Recently, a video from a Weverse live broadcast held by LE SSERAFIM went viral on X (formerly known as Twitter) with 18 million views overnight. The video shows the members talking about high school students. Noticeably, Eunchae, who dropped out of high school, said, “Oh, you all are in school. Huh? That must be tough. So tough… I know what it’s like. I also had to wake up at 7.”

This remark has become controversial as some netizens who found it “rude” and “disrespectful.” Many netizens come to criticize Eunchae for mocking the hard life of students her age while she is having a glamorous idol life after having dropped out of high school. Another tweet mentioned Eunchae’s Weverse post with a grammatical error which ended up disrespecting Red Velvet‘s Wendy. These incidents were put together to criticize Eunchae as “uneducated.” 

However, many Internet users have spoken up to defend the idol, claiming that in the full live broadcast, all of LE SSERAFIM members agreed with Eunchae about how hard the life of high school students is and rooted for their student fans. In a post made on the Korean online forum theqoo, netizens have also come to Eunchae’s defense, leaving comments such as “Eunchae got hate over… this?! I’m mind blown.” “I’m shocked that anyone would try to start sh*t with Eunchae over this. So what if she really was poking fun at people who have school or work or whatever? It’s a joke. Don’t take everything so seriously.” “I mean, I get why kids her age found the comment to be so annoying. LOL. But they’re all so genuinely offended. It’s because they’re so young.
