LE SSERAFIM talks about new album, 1st debut anniversary and controversy over plagiarizing Rosalía
Girl group LE SSERAFIM heralds a grand comeback with their first full album “UNFORGIVEN”.
On May 1st, LE SSERAFIM held a media showcase to commemorate the release of their first full album “UNFORGIVEN” at Yes24 Live Hall in Gwangjin-gu, Seoul.
Regarding their feelings about this comeback, Huh Yun Jin said, “We tried to show fans things that can exceed their expectations, so please look forward to it”. Kazuha shared, “We worked hard to prepare and show you our growth and coolness”. Sakura added, “It’s more meaningful because we make a comeback just one day before our first anniversary”.
Consisting of 13 tracks with 7 new songs, LE SSERAFIM’s full album “UNFORGIVEN” shows the girls’ self-confidence and cool attitude that they will pioneer their own way and don’t need forgiveness from others. Leader Kim Chae Won introduced, “The title song and b-side tracks are all connected to the theme and storyline of the album”.
The title song of the same name “UNFORGIVEN” samples the main theme OST of “The Good, the Bad and the Ugly” and features the guitar sound played by famous American musician Nile Rodgers. Regarding this song, Kim Chae Won shared, “This song shows LE SSERAFIM’s attitude towards prejudices and public evaluations”. Hong Eun Chae added, “It gives off a different vibe from our previous title songs”.
Revealing that they put more effort into this comeback since it’s their first full album, the members said, “We worked hard and challenged new genres to let you hear various voices”, “We really want to communicate with fans more through this promotion. I’m personally looking for our concert. I love music and the stage, that’s why I chose this path and I feel happiest when performing”, etc.
LE SSERAFIM also expressed their feelings about achieving more than 1.38 million album pre-orders, which is more than double the sales of their previous album “ANTIFRAGILE”. Sakura said, “Though we couldn’t believe it at first, we are happy and proud because fans also know that we have been working very hard for it.” Kim Chae Won added, “Our goal for this comeback promotion is to rank No.1 on music charts”.
Regarding their upcoming 1st debut anniversary, Sakura said, “We were very nervous and burdened when doing debut activities a year ago. However, I think we are more relaxed and enjoying the stage more. Our skills also improved a lot”. Huh Yun Jin shared, “We were already close even before our debut, but within that one year, we’ve become closer enough to call each other family members. I’m happy to be with the members throughout the past year and I want to make more memories with them in the future.” Moreover, Hong Eun Chae shared, “I tried writing lyrics for the first time through this album and found songwriting interesting. I want to participate in more songs”, expressing her ambition.
When asked about the controversy over the similarities between the songs of LE SSERAFIM and Rosalía, which has recently been a hot topic, leader Kim Chae Won firmly said, “LE SSERAFIM’s songs and concepts contain our own stories and messages, so we would appreciate it so much if you can consider them our unique symbols”. She added, “This full album is very important. Through this promotion, we will show you who we are.”
Meanwhile, LE SSERAFIM’s first full album “UNFORGIVEN” will be released at 6 p.m. on May 1st.
