Another controversy regarding the 2023 World Scout Jamboree, where fans attempt disguised entry, is sparking discussion.
On the 9th, the Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism revealed the lineup of artists who will perform at “Kpop Super Live” (hereinafter referred to as “Jamboree Kpop Concert”), a sub-event of the ‘2023 World Scout Jamboree”, which will be held in Seoul on August 11th at 7 PM (KST).
Contrary to the words of National Assembly member Sung Il Jong, there will be no BTS at the Jamboree Kpop Concert. Previously, Sung Il Jong demanded cooperation from the Ministry of National Defense to have BTS perform at the concert in an effort to “enhance South Korea’s national status”. However, criticisms followed, and due to time and physical constraints, BTS’ participation was excluded.
In the end, artists set to take the stage at the “Jamboree Kpop Concert” include NewJeans, NCT DREAM, ITZY, Mamamoo, THE BOYZ, Shownu & Hyungwon (MONSTA X), fromis_9, ZEROBASEONE (ZB1), Kang Daniel, Kwon Eunbi, Jo Yuri, P1Harmony, KARD, THE NEW SIX (TNX), ATBO, xikers, Libelante, and dance crew HolyBang. Meanwhile, actor Gong Myung, as well as ITZY Yuna and NewJeans Hyein, will MC the event.
Compared to the initially planned lineup back on the 6th, which included IVE, ZEROBASEONE (ZB1), NMIXX, STAYC, P1Harmony, &TEAM, VERIVERY, Lee Chaeyeon, NATURE, ATBO, and xikers, there have been significant changes due to sudden scheduling issues. The MC lineup, which originally include actor Jang Dong Yoon as well as Sieun and Seeun of STAYC, also changed completely.
Currently, the 2023 World Scout Jamboree is in a crisis. Amid inadequate preparation for the event, a heatwave has led to heat-related illnesses, and the lack of facilities and safety measures, along with inadequate response to sexual crimes, has sparked criticism.
At the same time, the Jamboree K-Pop Concert is already facing another controversy. Some netizens are attempting to enter the concert disguised in Jamboree scout uniforms. In fact, on some second-hand markets, it’s easy to find posts titled “Looking for Jamboree Scout Uniforms.”, leading to opinions like “Since people might try to enter the concert by disguising themselves in scout uniforms, stricter controls are necessary.”
Due to inadequate preparation, controversies, and rushed administration, the 2023 World Scout Jamboree has lost its prestige. Even amid the turmoil, Kpop artists are stepping in as saviors to restore South Korea’s pride. However, concerns are rising that due to some fans, it might result in another disgrace rather than elevating the image, given the shortcomings in preparation, controversies, and rushed administration that have already damaged South Korea’s image.
