“Attack IVE Jang Wonyoung, BTS V” Korean music industry organizations issue statement demanding strict punishment for malicious content creators

Several Korean music industry organizations, including the Korea Management Federation, the Korea Entertainment Producers’ Association, the Record Label Industry Association of Korea and the Korea Music Content Association, issued a statement demanding strict punishment for malicious content creators, including Sojang.

In their statement, these organizations express their strong appeal for severe penalties against malicious content creators who harass and torment public figures in popular culture. They emphasize that these creators produce and disseminate numerous videos without factual verification, mocking and defaming artists without any basis. Malicious content creators often exploit their anonymity to create controversies and maximize their own profits by capitalizing on others’ suffering. Such actions not only harm artists and their agencies but also damage the overall image of Korea’s popular culture and entertainment industry.

The organizations call for thorough investigations by law enforcement agencies and strict legal penalties to combat indiscriminate hate comments, cyber defamation and insult crimes. They also urge the establishment of a legal framework to address these issues and create a foundation for the sustainable development of the popular culture industry.

The statement comes in response to the rise of malicious content creators such as Sojang, which spread rumors and engaged in character defamation against various K-pop idols including BTS V and IVE Jang Wonyoung. These rumors and attacks caused distress and harm to the artists involved.

Some entertainment agencies, such as HYBE and KQ Entertainment (home to ATEEZ), have already taken legal action against malicious content creators, including submitting complaints and seeking legal remedies. The music industry organizations hope that their collective statement will contribute to ensuring that proper legal consequences are imposed on malicious content creators.
