“Korean hanbok is beautiful”… Girls’ Generation Hyoyeon got attacked by malicious comments from Chinese netizens

While Girls’ Generation Hyoyeon posted photos of herself wearing a hanbok, she was attacked by malicious comments from Chinese netizens.

Recently, Hyoyeon uploaded several photos on her Instagram along with the caption saying, “Korean hanbok is beautiful.” In the photos, Hyoyeon was wearing a hanbok and posing in various poses. She showed off her elegant figure with her fan spread out.

Netizens who saw this post speculated that the move was aimed at the controversy over hanbok’s origin. At the opening ceremony of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, a Korean-Chinese woman wearing a hanbok appeared and made it seem like a Chinese minority ethnic group’s culture.

Chinese netizens flocked to Hyoyeon’s post and attacked her with malicious comments. Aside from vomiting-shaped emoticons, they poured out excessive criticism and swear words in Chinese. Accordingly, Hyoyeon eventually closed her Instagram comment section. It seems to be a choice to prevent malicious comments from Chinese netizens.

Meanwhile, Hyoyeon recently joined SM Entertainment‘s project unit “GOT the beat” and released “Step Back”.
