On August 9th, tvN X TVING’s original drama “No Gain No Love” (written by Kim Hye-young, directed by Kim Jeong-sik) released still cuts and an interview with actor Kim Young-dae.
Set to premiere on August 26th, “No Gain No Love” tells the story of Son Hae-young (Shin Min-ah), a woman who got married because she didn’t want to lose money, and Kim Ji-wook (Kim Young-dae), a man who became her husband because he didn’t want to cause harm.
In the drama, Kim Young-dae takes on the role of Kim Ji-wook, a convenience store night shift worker known as a citizen police officer and a righteous man. Ji-wook cannot turn his back on those in need. When he receives a job offer to be a stand-in groom from his polar opposite, Hae-young, he faces a new chapter in his life.
Kim Young-dae’s portrayal of Kim Ji-wook has captivated attention, revealing a variety of sides to the character. Initially hiding behind unruly hair and thick glasses, he later transforms into a more polished version of himself, with deep, mysterious eyes. Kim Young-dae is expected to bring out the hidden sides of Ji-wook, showcasing a surprising charm.
Regarding why he chose this work, Kim Young-dae said, “I was intrigued and entertained by the realistic aspects and diverse expressions of the characters. The various episodes that unfold as the characters’ lives intertwine are a major draw of our drama.”
Kim Young-dae described his character Ji-wook as someone who is logical and does not want to cause harm to others. He expressed “Even though he’s quick to calculate things, he doesn’t want to cause any harm to others, even if it means taking a loss himself. I found that admirable“, showing his affection for the character.
He also emphasized the importance of portraying Ji-wook’s image as an “upright young man” while explaining that Ji-wook’s cautious nature makes him prefer to stay hidden rather than stand out. He worked hard to depict Ji-wook’s life changes after meeting Hae-young.
Kim Young-dae mentioned the keywords “diligence”, “sincerity” and “loneliness” as essential to understanding Ji-wook, noting that Ji-wook’s reluctance to inconvenience others mirrors reality, further highlighting their high level of synchronization. He also expressed his gratitude to Shin Min-ah, “Thanks to senior Min-ah’s consideration throughout filming, I was able to focus solely on my acting. I am very grateful.” He concluded by asking viewers for their support, “We’ve prepared with all our hearts to deliver a drama that brings energy and happiness, so please show it a lot of love and interest.“
