“Honestly, I can’t say that I was so happy…”, Kim Tae-ri made headlines with her acceptance speech when receiving Best Actress at Baeksang
Kim Tae-ri was honored with Best Actress at the 58th Baeksang Arts Awards.
On May 6th, the 58th Baeksang Arts Awards was held at the 4th Hall of KINTEX in Ilsan, Gyeonggi-do and broadcast live on JTBC. After two years being held without spectators due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Baeksang Arts Awards finally welcomed audiences for the first time as the social distancing regulation has been removed.
The event was hosted by Shin Dong-yeop, Suzy, and Park Bo-gum and attended by popular culture artists who are active in TV series, film and theatre categories.
Last year’s winners Shin Ha-kyun and Kim So-yeon appeared as the presenters for Best Actor and Actress in the TV series category. In the Best Actress section, “Twenty-five, Twenty-one” Kim Tae-ri, “Juvenile Justice” Kim Hye-soo, “The King’s Affection” Park Eun-bin, “The Red Sleeve” Lee Se-young, and “My Name” Han So-hee were nominated.
Kim Tae-ri of “Twenty-five, Twenty-one” was announced as the winner. Surprised by the result, she came on the stage while covering her mouth.
Holding the Best Actress trophy in her hands, Kim Tae-ri said, “I was thinking that it would be okay if I didn’t get the award and I didn’t even expect to win it. When receiving the Popularity Award, I forgot to mention the director, the writer, staff, and fellow actors who worked with me. I was thinking if I were to go up on the stage (to receive the Best Actress), I would thank them for their hard work”.
Kim Tae-ri said “I’m really sorry” as she was too emotional to give a proper speech. She continued, “I recently read an article I wrote in my early 20s again. I wrote, ‘Actors steal things from others and don’t care about anyone else’. I think it was somehow true. I stole a lot from Hee-do. I learned a lot from her. I feel so grateful that the kid named Hee-do came to me so that I was able to portray this character. Honestly, I can’t say that I was so happy about that. I think I was more thankful”.
She wrapped up her acceptance speech by saying, “But I feel so good since I was loved a lot, I won Best Actress and people who worked hard for this drama have all received congratulations. I want to say thank you to everyone. I will continue to work hard and become a better actress”.
