The drama “Jeong Nyeon” has been confirmed to air on tvN
On Nov 16th, tvN announced, “The drama ‘Jeong Nyeon’ will meet viewers through tvN. Kim Tae-ri, Shin Ye-eun, Ra Mi-ran and Moon So-ri confirmed their appearances in the drama. The directing will be handled by director Jung Ji-in of ‘The Red Sleeve’ and the script will be written by writer Choi Hyo-bi of ‘A Time Called You’ with the goal of airing next year.“
Based on the webtoon of the same name known for its fresh material and exceptional artistic quality, tvN’s new drama “Jeong Nyeon” depicts the story of a girl named Jeong Nyeon (Kim Tae-ri) who joins a women’s traditional theater company and grows up in the aftermath of the Korean War in the 1950s.
Director Jung Ji-in, who won the “PD of the Year” award at the 34th Korea PD Awards thanks to “The Red Sleeve”, will be in charge of directing. The brilliant cast of Kim Tae-ri, Shin Ye-eun, Ra Mi-ran and Moon So-ri has further raised expectations for the drama.
Kim Tae-ri will play the role of Yoon Jeong-nyeon, a genius pansori performer who goes to great lengths to become a theatrical actress. Kim Tae-ri has shown outstanding acting skills in every work, from movies like “The Handmaiden”, “1987: When the Day Comes”, “Little Forest” to dramas like “Mr. Sunshine”, “Twenty-Five Twenty-One”, “Revenant”. Expectations are focused on Kim Tae-ri’s performance in bringing the character to life with perfect synchronization.
Shin Ye-eun, who won the Best New Actress award at the 2nd Blue Dragon Series Awards thanks to Disney+’s original series “Revenge of Others”, will transform into Heo Young-seo, who has solid talents in singing, dancing and acting with a prestigious background. It is anticipated that she will form a fiery rivalry with Jeong-nyeon.
Ra Mi-ran will play the role of Kang So-bok, the cool and charismatic head of the women’s theater company. Ra Mi-ran has received acclaim for her performances in a variety of works such as the movie “Honest Candidate” and dramas like “Reply 1988”, “The Good Bad Mother”. Her charismatic acting is highly anticipated.
Finally, Moon So-ri will strengthen the drama with a special appearance. Moon So-ri will play the role of Seo Yong-rye, Jeong-nyeon’s mother who raised her child alone while keeping her past as a gifted singer concealed. Moon So-ri, who has demonstrated outstanding acting skills in numerous works such as “Peppermint Candy” and “Three Sisters”, is expected to add another layer of immersion to the drama.
