On June 1, attorney Go Sang Rok of law firm Phil, who is representing Kim Soo Hyun, posted a strong statement on his personal account. He argued that unless the channel itself is permanently deleted, the same structure of alleged crimes could happen again. “Unless the channel itself is permanently deleted, the criminal structure can be repeated at any time.”
Attorney Go warned that even after Kim Se Ui’s arrest, other cast members on the channel could continue broadcasting and repeat similar methods of incitement and attacks. He also criticized the channel for allegedly spreading false information based on hate and provocation for the past 7 years, while earning massive donations and advertising revenue.
According to the report, Go Sang Rok listed several public figures and victims who had allegedly suffered because of the channel, including Kim Gun Mo, Lee Sun Kyun, and Tzuyang. He strongly condemned the fact that such a channel had remained active on a major platform for years while generating profit. “The fact that this kind of channel has been maintained on the platform for a long time and generated revenue is itself a serious failure of society and the platform system.”
The controversy escalated after the Seoul Central District Court issued an arrest warrant for Kim Se Ui on May 26. Judge Boo Dong Sik, who handled the warrant review, reportedly approved the warrant due to concerns that Kim could destroy evidence or flee. Gangnam Police had applied for the warrant after a year-long investigation. According to the report, police concluded that Kim Se Ui allegedly spread false information, including by using artificial intelligence technology to manipulate audio.
The charges reportedly include violations of the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of Sexual Crimes, defamation, threats, and attempted coercion. Kim Se Ui is accused of broadcasting false claims that the late actress Kim Sae Ron and Kim Soo Hyun had dated in the past. He is also accused of spreading the claim that Kim Sae Ron’s death was caused by pressure from Kim Soo Hyun’s side over debt repayment.
Kim Soo Hyun’s lawyer is now calling the permanent deletion of Garo Sero Institute not just a platform decision but a basic safety measure. “The permanent deletion of the Garo Sero Institute channel is not a matter of choice, but the minimum measure for social safety.” Attorney Go also asked global fans to help collect reports and protest materials submitted to YouTube. He emphasized that this case should become a turning point, showing that society will no longer tolerate repeated cyber-wrecker crimes and character assassination.
The demand has now intensified public attention on platform responsibility, online defamation, AI-generated manipulation, and the long-term damage caused by rumor-based broadcasts targeting celebrities.
