Kim Seon-ho is finally back and people are having mixed reactions

Actor Kim Seon-ho is back.

Kim Seon-ho announced his return with the play “Touching the Void.” It has been about nine months since the controversy over his privacy matter revealed by his ex-girlfriend.

The last show of  “Touching the Void” starring Kim Seon-ho was sold out. Although he had a hiatus due to a big controversy, the support of his fandom and his ticket-selling power is still going strong.

His first performance was said to have been enough to live up to the fans’ expectations. Rumor has it that he, who was known as an idol of the play actors before starting mainstream acting, drew applause by making a great performance on the stage even after a long time.

Earlier in November last year, Kim Seon-ho was embroiled in a controversy over the revealation of his ex-lover A who accused him of forcing her to abort their baby under the guise of marriage. In the aftermath, he dropped out of KBS2’s entertainment program “2 Days 1 Night,” and his casting in the movies “Dog Days” and “Two o’clock Date” was also canceled. His apology and A’s explanation ended the case, but public opinion was divided.

He then temporarily stopped working and focused on his next film, ‘Sad Tropical.’ However, even during his absence, his fandom’s solidarity was maintained. This was confirmed at the site of him returning home on April 18 after filming “Sad Tropical” in Thailand. Several reporters and fans were waiting for him at Incheon International Airport on the same day. Even though he left the airport without saying much at the time, his comfortable clothes were also talked about, making him in the spotlight.

However, some say that some of the measures that had to be preceded in the process of his returning were omitted. The fandom that supports him is also important, but it is argued that the priority is to make the public understand the situations directly.

A public relations official in the entertainment industry told Sports Seoul on July 11th, “The controversy is his private matter, so he is the one to decide whether to return or not, and the public will evaluate the judgment. His action wasn’t drunk driving or sex crimes, but there are some parts of the matter that are disappointing (to the public). I don’t know if it’s because he’s careful, but I think he’s hiding behind his fandom.”

“I don’t think there will be any obstacles to his future activities, but it’s a shame in terms of the agency or actor’s response,” said B, an official in the entertainment management industry. “I think it would have been nice to have a press conference or press call before the start of the play to resolve his controversy. Isn’t it time for him to come forward directly?” he pointed out.
