Kim Seon Ho, “After the controversy, I spent time reflecting on myself… I felt both sorry and grateful”

Actor Kim Seon Ho looked back on his hard time and expressed gratitude to “The Childe” director Park Hoon Jung.

On June 12th, Kim Seon Ho had an interview with News1 for the release of “The Childe”, his first movie after 14 years of debut, at a cafe in Samcheong-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul. During the interview, the actor mentioned his hard time due to the private life controversy, saying “I felt sorry the most to people around me since I made people around me, especially director Park Jung Hoon, suffer delays in work. However, it was also the time for me to look back on myself.”

When asked if he felt regret or resentment for the time he lost due to the private life controversy, Kim Seon Ho replied, “I don’t think my skills or acting spectrum would suddenly widen or narrow even without that hard time. I also don’t think there has been a change in how I express my work. That’s why I didn’t feel regretful or resent that time.”

In addition, he explained, “I appreciate everyone and everything. My biggest goal as an actor is to portray my characters well. The fact that I feel so sorry for the people around me, those who support me, was my biggest regret and I was so grateful to have them. I’m also thankful to those who write about me with good words.”

In October 2021, Kim Seon Ho was embroiled in a controversy over his private life raised by his ex-girlfriend A. At that time, Kim Seon Ho addressed the allegations in detail through his agency but also acknowledged his own mistakes, saying “I hurt her. I want to apologize to her sincerely”. A also edited her disclosure post, saying “I received his apology and there were some misunderstandings between us”.

After the controversy, Kim Seon Ho halted all activities and dropped out of all projects, including the movies “Dog Days” and “2 O’Clock Date” as well as KBS 2TV’s entertainment program “2 Days & 1 Night”. However, director Park Hoon Jung, who was preparing for “The Childe” (originally titled “Sad Tropical”) at that time, drew attention as he decided to keep Kim Seon Ho in the cast.

Regarding Park Hoon Jung’s decision to keep the original cast, Kim Seon Ho recalled and said, “I could understand the director’s feelings at that time. I felt both sorry and grateful for his decision. The director discussed with the production company Studio&NEW CEO Jang Kyung Ik discussed and stayed with me, saying ‘If you feel okay, we’re going to do it with you till the end’.”

Kim Seon Ho also expressed his gratitude to CEO Jang Kyung Ik and director Park Hoon Jung, saying, “I really appreciate CEO Jang and director Park. I’m not sure how they felt, but the director acted as if nothing had happened. I agreed to do this work because it was already delayed and I didn’t want to cause more harm to them. If I dropped out of the team, the film could have been delayed for a longer time and suffered more losses.”

Revealing that director Park Hoon Jung is like a friend and an older brother to him, Kim Seon Ho shared, “He is not only a great director but also a good brother and even a friend to me in some ways. We discussed many things apart from acting and work. We also talked about how to live a good life and approach situations for positive developments.”

“The Childe” tells about the madness chase that begins when a mysterious man and other forces appear in front of the boy Marco, a boxer who moves around illegal stadiums in the Philippines, for different purposes. Known as a new film by Park Hoon Jung, the director of “New World” and “The Witch”, and Kim Seon Ho’s movie debut, “The Childe” aroused keen interest since the production stage.

In the film, Kim Seon Ho plays Nobleman, the mysterious chaser who turns Marco’s surroundings into chaos.
