The controversy surrounding late actress Kim Sae-ron’s former manager has come to a conclusion. On August 25, reports confirmed that police have dismissed the embezzlement accusations against Mr. K, her ex-manager, due to insufficient evidence.
Broadcaster Kwon Young-chan had filed a complaint in June on behalf of Kim Sae-ron’s family, alleging that the manager had misused personal medical records and mishandled a hospital bill. However, on August 21, the National Office of Investigation ruled the case as “no charges filed”.

Kwon Young-chan had raised suspicions after claiming that outpatient records were created under Kim Sae-ron’s name a month after her death. He also pointed to a 5.4 million won surgery bill that was later recharged at 4.98 million won, suggesting financial irregularities.

In response, the former manager strongly denied the allegations, explaining: “Kim Sae-ron herself said the surgery cost around 5 million won. Since she did not have insurance, I simply paid the bill on her behalf. There was nothing suspicious.”
A representative from Kim Sae-ron’s previous agency also defended him, noting that he had cared deeply for the actress during his time with the company: “There is no truth to the claims of embezzlement or misconduct. He was someone who looked after her meals and supported her.”
Hospital staff likewise dismissed the rumors, clarifying in an interview with SBS Entertainment News that both the medical records and payment discrepancies were “groundless.”
While this case has been dropped, the dispute continues in another direction. In June, Mr. K filed a counter-lawsuit against Kwon Young-chan for defamation and insult under the Information and Communications Network Act. That case remains under police investigation.
This latest development clears the former manager of wrongdoing in relation to Kim Sae-ron’s medical expenses, but the legal battle between him and the broadcaster is still ongoing.
