Appearing on KBS 2TV’s Problem Child in House on February 5, Kim Jong Kook spoke candidly about his married life, saying, “We hardly ever argue. We really don’t interfere with each other’s lives.”
A week earlier, he had already shared that his wife was someone he knew long before they started dating. “She was a female friend at first, but at some point I naturally began to see her as a woman. I thought that if I married her, I’d be truly happy, so we started dating,” he explained.
Despite these revelations, Kim Jong Kook’s efforts to protect his wife’s privacy have been legendary. In October last year, a vlog uploaded to his YouTube channel briefly caused a stir when a faint reflection of his wife appeared in a hotel window as he showed viewers the interior. The video was quickly deleted, sparking reactions online questioning whether even a silhouette was off-limits.
Kim Jong Kook married his non-celebrity wife on September 5 last year in what has been described as one of the most tightly secured celebrity weddings in recent memory. Guests were informed of the venue only a day in advance and were explicitly asked not to share any information even with their managers. Yoo Jae Suk later recalled, “As Kim Jong Kook walked in, he actually warned the guests to keep quiet. He put his finger to his lips and strictly instructed everyone. I’ve never seen a groom like that before.”
Now, nearly six months into married life, Kim Jong Kook himself is slowly lifting the veil. While he still keeps his wife out of the spotlight, his candid comments about their relationship suggest a man growing more comfortable sharing his happiness one carefully chosen detail at a time.
