Kim Heechul, a longtime cast member of Knowing Bros, is officially taking a temporary break from the show due to health concerns. The announcement, confirmed by JTBC on April 30, marks a significant moment for the popular variety program.
“Kim Heechul will take a temporary break starting from episode 528, airing on May 9, due to health reasons. This is not a permanent departure, and he is expected to rejoin the show in the future,” JTBC stated.
Kim Heechul has been part of Knowing Bros since its premiere in December 2015, making him one of the show’s original and most influential members. Known for his sharp humor and candid personality, he has played a crucial role in shaping the program’s identity.

Although the exact nature of his health condition has not been disclosed, his hiatus highlights the increasing emphasis on artist well-being in the Korean entertainment industry. Many fans have expressed support, encouraging the star to focus on recovery.
Filling in for Kim Heechul is comedian Kim Shin Young, who brings prior experience and proven chemistry with the cast. She has previously appeared on the show five times as a guest, earning praise for her quick wit and energetic presence.
The production team shared: “Kim Shin Young quickly adapted to the ‘*Knowing Bros School’ thanks to her past appearances and will bring fresh energy with her unique sense and humor.”*

Kim Shin Young’s addition is particularly notable as she becomes the first female fixed cast member in Knowing Bros history since its debut nearly 10 years ago. This shift is expected to bring a new dynamic to the show’s classroom format and diversify its comedic interactions.
The temporary absence of Kim Heechul signals a transitional phase for Knowing Bros. While his unique presence will be missed, Kim Shin Young’s inclusion offers an opportunity for the show to evolve and refresh its format.
Fans are anticipating how her comedic style will blend with existing cast members and whether this change could lead to long-term adjustments in the lineup.
