On May 29, a video titled “Kim Heechul, Who Says His Vision Dropped After Surgery, Came to Visit” was uploaded to the YouTube channel Dr.JoonhyunKimTV. In the video, Kim Heechul underwent an eye examination with ophthalmologist Kim Joon Hyun, the same specialist who performed his ICL lens implantation surgery in 2020.

Kim Heechul shared, “I recently had a health checkup. My left eye tested at 0.9 and my right eye at 0.6, so Joon Hyun told me to come in and get checked.” He later took another vision test during the appointment and recorded a 1.5 vision score.

The optometrist asked whether he had experienced temporary dryness or fatigue during his health screening. Kim Heechul explained, “I started the checkup at 7 a.m. after only sleeping for two hours.” The specialist responded that his condition at the time was likely influenced by fatigue.

Fortunately, the examination revealed no major issues despite Kim Heechul’s worries. Dr. Kim reassured him, saying, “Compared to your last visit, nothing has changed. Even your refractive values are exactly the same. It has been over six years since the surgery, and your condition is actually very good. There are no signs of cataracts either, so there’s nothing to worry about.”

At one point, Kim Heechul asked whether there was such a thing as lens implantation for presbyopia. The doctor replied that he likely would not need such a procedure. Kim Heechul said, “That’s a relief. Even if I’m the model for lens implantation surgery, I can’t exactly say, ‘Please put more lenses into perfectly fine eyes.’”

The doctor then jokingly suggested, “If you want, we could always do surgery again.” Playing along, Kim Heechul replied, “Eye surgery just to get the perfect camera angle?” sending everyone into laughter.

Back in April, Kim Heechul announced that he would temporarily step away from JTBC’s Knowing Bros, a variety show he had been part of for nearly a decade. At the time, JTBC stated that the singer and entertainer would be taking a short break due to health-related reasons.

Born in 1983, Kim Heechul debuted as a member of Super Junior in 2005 and has remained one of K-pop’s most recognizable entertainers.
