Korean rapper Kim Haon sparked controversy after performing alongside fellow rapper Sik-K (real name Kwon Min-sik, 32), who is currently under appeal for drug charges, on the final episode of Mnet’s rap competition show Show Me the Money 12 (SMTM12).
The show aired its final broadcast on April 2, in which Kim Haon performed King’s Gambit on stage with other prominent rappers including Zico, Gaeko, and Vinxen. Sik-K appeared in the performance via pre-recorded video footage, rather than live on stage, but viewers noted that this distinction had little practical effect, leading to criticism that the broadcast was “sweeping the issue under the rug.”

Sik-K is facing a second trial after receiving a 10-month suspended prison sentence with a two-year probation for drug use. The prosecution had initially sought three years and six months in prison, prompting the appeal. He previously admitted to drug use near a police station in Yongsan, Seoul, in January 2023, and subsequent investigations revealed the use of ketamine, ecstasy, and cannabis between 2023 and 2024.
Critics argue that allowing Sik-K to appear on national television while his legal proceedings are ongoing sets a problematic precedent, questioning why other artists involved in drug-related controversies, such as Nafla or Yoon Byung-ho, would not be afforded similar opportunities. Sik-K had previously performed publicly even after his first trial, drawing similar backlash.

Sik-K’s legal team defended the appearance, citing that “being a public figure imposes strong social constraints that reduce the likelihood of recidivism” and warned that job-related consequences, such as show cancellations or ad removals, should not influence sentencing. Nevertheless, the decision to feature him on SMTM12 has intensified debate over accountability and fairness in the entertainment industry.
Sik-K’s appeal trial is scheduled for April 30 at 10 a.m.
