Kim Gu-ra Mentions AOA Seolhyun & Jimin’s Past Controversy, “The PD Didn’t Remove The Scene Despite My Request”

Kim Gu-ra revealed a behind story about the controversy over AOA Seolhyun and Jimin’s ignorance of history 8 years ago

In a video uploaded on his YouTube channel on July 3rd, Kim Gu-ra said, “A girl group once showed their ignorance of our country’s history”, referring to Seolhyun and Jimin’s controversy in 2016.

Back then, Seolhyun and Jimin were solving a quiz on a program called “Channel AOA” and they had to guess the names of the people in pictures. However, they failed to guess the right answer when the picture of Ahn Jung-geun was shown. Even after receiving the hint “Itō Hirobumi”, Jimin said, “Kintokan (Kim Doo-han’s Japanese name)? I don’t care much about this”. Seolhyun also answered, “Toyotomi Hideyoshi”.

Controversy sparked as the public poured criticism over the two’s ignorance of history. At that time, Seolhyun, who was receiving keen attention in the advertising industry, even faced a crisis of her model contracts being canceled. In the end, both Jimin and Seolhyun shed tears and apologized.

Kim Gu-ra explained, “I even told the manager (of AOA) to delete the scene”, adding, “I asked them to remove the scene, but the PD kept it”.

He continued, “That PD might have gained attention at that moment, but in the end, unfavorable reviews spread among idol groups and entertainment companies, leading to people saying ‘Don’t trust that person’”, adding “Do you think that PD is still doing well? I don’t think so”.
