Kim Go Eun x Park Jin Young – “Yumi’s Cells season 2” is also a hit, attracting highest number of paid subscribers in history

Yumi’s Cells season 2 and Kim Go Eun x Park Jin Young are receiving a lot of love from viewers.

On June 10th, episode 1 and 2 of Yumi’s Cells season 2 aired amid high expectations. The series, which continues the story in season 1 released last year, follows the office worker Yumi (played by actress Kim Go Eun), and her life after a breakup. Now, she has entered a new stage of life, and her relationship with co-work Bobby (played by idol-actor Park Jin Young), is becoming quite a heart-flutter.

Similar to season 1, the cute animation of “cells” within Yumi’s head easily captures the hearts of viewers, and this 2nd season is slowly becoming a hot topic.

This huge reception is also reflected in new-reported figures of content viewing platform TVING. In particular, “Yumi’s Cells” recorded the highest number of paid subscribers in the first week among all TVING original dramas. This is almost four times the figures reported in season 1 – a clear testament of the series’ growing popularity. With this, it seems that “Yumi’s Cells” is off to a good start.

Yumi's Cells 2

At the end of season 1, Yumi broke up with Gu Woong, who is played by actor Ahn Bo Hyun. Within her head, the cell village was raging, but they were not as miserable as in the beginning of the season. Despite it being a tough breakup, Yumi tries to recover, while the cells try their best to keep up Yumi’s composure without Yumi’s daily life falling apart.

In the meantime, Yumi also faces a new excitement stemming from her colleague Bobby, who’s the only one to recognize Yumi’s heartbrokenness after her breakup. As Bobby is a good person who’s continuously kind to Yumi, the cells also fall for his charms, and even form a fanclub to support Bobby, with merchs and lightsticks. However, Yumi’s “love cell” is still in a coma due to Woong, and so she carefully rejects Bobby’s advances.

However, Bobby’s candidness, sincerity, and consideration is slowly winning over Yumi’s heart and taking down her barriers. Even when she’s not in love with Bobby yet, Yumi finds her eyes constantly drawn to him, and her two cells Slammy & Thumpy makes her heart beat fast. However, just as Yumi becomes fascinated with her colleague, she receives shocking news: Bobby is going on a blind date! At this, she can only look at Bobby’s back in deep regret.

Right from the beginning, the story of Yumi is drawing in viewers with its small excitement and relatability. While realistic, “Yumi’s Cells” manages to deliver a simple love story in an interest way, and Bobby also proves to be a scene-stealer. The teasing and slow-burn between Yumi and Bobby keeps watchers hooked to the show, curious to see where the relationship between them is leading. Anticipations are high for the cells’ antics, who are battling intensely with team Bobby and team against bobby.

In addition, Park Jin Young is proving to be a perfect boyfriend material as Bobby – who’s understanding, considerate, and overwhelmingly handsome.
