MBC’s historical drama legacy continues with the rising success of “Moon River”, a romance-fantasy historical series starring Kang Tae-oh and Kim Se-jeong. The show premiered on November 7 and has been steadily climbing in viewership.

The drama revolves around Crown Prince Lee Kang (Kang Tae-oh) and Bu Bo-sang Park Dal-i (Kim Se-jeong), whose souls unexpectedly switch bodies after reconnecting through a mystical bond. The series blends humor, romance, and palace intrigue, keeping viewers engaged as the story progresses.

“Moon River” opened with a 3.8% rating and dipped slightly to 3.7% in its second episode. However, episode 3 broke past the 5% mark with 5.6%, signaling growing interest. Episode 5 achieved 6.1%, with the body-swap ending scene reaching a peak of 7.8% per Nielsen Korea.

In episode 6, Lee Kang’s efforts to protect Park Dal-i’s dream struck an emotional chord with viewers. A scene in which Lee Kang’s soul inhabits Park Dal-i’s body while seeking the Queen Dowager (Nam Gi-ae) recorded a peak rating of 7.1%.

Kang Tae-oh portrays Crown Prince Lee Kang, who manages state affairs in place of his incapacitated father. Despite his royal responsibilities, he indulges in beauty and style after losing his love, balancing his duties with his flamboyant personality. Kim Se-jeong plays Park Dal-i, a wandering Bu Bo-sang who struggles through daily life. Another highlight is the complicated relationship between the deposed Crown Prince Lee Un (Lee Shin-young) and Kim Woo-hee (Hong Soo-joo), the daughter of the Left State Councilor. Childhood affection and conflicting ambitions create tension as both navigate their feelings while pursuing political goals. Additionally, Lee Kang secretly investigates the Gyesanyeon incident orchestrated by Left State Councilor Kim Han-chul, discovering clues about the mysterious merchant Jimjo and his connection to past tragedies, adding layers of intrigue.

As the series progresses, viewers are captivated by the unfolding romance, palace politics, and the unpredictable consequences of the body-swap, cementing “Moon River” as a standout success for MBC.
