K-pop Idols Who Donated Over 100 Million Won and Joined The Honor Society

There are many K-pop idols who are recognized for their charitable activities and sponsorships

Below are some K-pop idols who have joined the high-donor society “Honor Society” for having donated more than 100 million won (approx 76,000 USD).

1. IU

IU, who has continued to donate and do good deeds by donating every debut anniversary, is a member of the Honor Society.

This year, to commemorate her 15th debut anniversary, IU donated a total of 300 million won (approx 228,000 USD) to Seoul Asan Hospital, Korea Child Welfare Association, and Seoul Children’s Hospital.

As of September, her cumulative donation amount exceeded 4.5 billion won (approx 3.4 million USD), and in 2019, she was recognized by Forbes as the youngest Asian “donation hero”.

2. Girls’ Generation’s Yoona

Girls’ Generation’s Yoona became a member of the “Honor Society” in 2015, making her the first idol to do so. She has been participating in various social and charitable activities such as helping the underprivileged during year-end sharing events since 2010. 

After joining the Honor Society, Yoona exceeded a cumulative donation amount of 300 million won (approx 228,000 USD) within three years.

In 2018, with a cumulative donation amount of 300 million won, she was invited to a luncheon hosted by Kim Jung-sook, the former first lady of President Moon Jae-in and the chairwoman of the Social Welfare Joint Fundraising Committee. In 2020, she also donated 100 million won for COVID-19 support.

3. Suzy

Former Miss A member and current singer-actress Suzy is also known as a “donation angel”. She has been consistently donating since 2012 and joined the high-donor society “Honor Society” in 2015. 

In November 2022, she surpassed a cumulative donation amount of 500 million won (approx 380,000 USD).

In February, she contributed 100 million won for relief efforts after the Turkey-Syria earthquakes, and in July, she donated 100 million won to help people affected by concentrated heavy rainfall.

4. AOA’s Seolhyun

Seolhyun is also a member of the Honor Society. The female idol joined in 2018 but she has been steadily donating and doing volunteer work since 2017. In 2020, she donated 50 million won to the National Disaster Relief Association to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.

5. NCT’s Doyoung and Haechan

NCT members Doyoung and Haechan were listed as a member of the Honor Society in February. NCT is the first group to have two Honor Society’s big donors.

Doyoung donated 100 million won to aid the Turkey-Syria earthquake recovery through the Community Chest of Korea. Apart from that, he has continued doing various activities, such as providing support to relieve damage from the forest fires in Gyeongbuk, Ulkin, Gangwon, and Samcheok in 2022.

Following Doyoung, Haechan also donated 100 million won to help people suffering from the earthquake in Turkey and Syria.

6. SEVENTEEN’s Hoshi

In June 2021, Hoshi delivered 100 million won to the Namyangju Welfare Foundation. Knowing that many people were having a hard time due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic and sponsorships had been reduced, he decided to give a helping hand. This donation helped him become a member of the Honor Society.

7. Super Junior’s Heechul

Heechul supported 100 million won to the fund for the recovery of Gyeongbuk, Ulkin, Gangwon, and Samcheok forest fires in 2022.

In 2019 he also donated 30 million won to support forest fire victims in Gangwon and 50 million won to help people in need amid the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. In March 2022, he became a member of the Honor Society.

8. Red Velvet’s Wendy

Wendy appeared on the list of Honor Society members in May 2021. She donated  100 million won to the Fruit Of Love Association in February 2020 to aid COVID-19 damage. What’s more impressive was that she made the donation while receiving treatment for a serious injury.
