“K-pop Fever” Spreads Overseas With LE SSERAFIM, ATEEZ & Stray Kids Performing At Global Music Festivals

Last year, BLACKPINK headlined the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival and attracted more than 200,000 people every year, followed by TXT and NewJeans’s performances at Lollapalooza Chicago. This year, global music festivals continue to recruit K-pop groups.

Coachella recently announced their new lineup with LE SSERAFIM and ATEEZ. The two groups will perform on the same stage with top musicians such as American singer-songwriter Lana Del Rey, American rapper-producer Tyler, the Creator, American rapper Doja Cat, etc.

LE SSERAFIM is scheduled to perform at Coachella on April 13th and 20th. They will become the fastest Korean singer to debut at this festival. It is notable that they will make their first appearance at a US music festival despite being a new group with less than two years of experience and their name appeared just below the headliners. Although the performance order, stage size and running time may vary, the treatment of being named right below headliners is enough to confirm LE SSERAFIM’s influence in the US. Following the release of their 3rd mini album “EASY” on the 19th and the success of their English digital single “Perfect Night”, LE SSERAFIM will solidify their presence in the US with their Coachella debut.

Presenting their stage at the Coachella on April 12th and 19th, ATEEZ will become the first K-pop boy group to perform at this music festival. Having proven the title “performance master” in name and reality through their large-scale world tour in North America, ATEEZ is expected to continue gaining more popularity through Coachella.

After their performance at the Lollapalooza Paris last year, Stray Kids has been selected as the headliner for this year’s events in Italy and the UK. They will appear at the Italian festival I-Days on July 12th and the UK’s BST Hyde Park on the 14th of the same month, becoming the first group to headline two festivals at the same time.

The news of LE SSERAFIM, ATEEZ and Stray Kids’ appearances at overseas music festivals has further confirmed K-pop’s status in the mainstream pop market. Unlike solo tours, which mostly depend on fandoms, festivals feature singers who are recognized in terms of both popularity and influence. The fact that K-pop groups have been invited to such events more often shows that the cultural prejudice of K-pop being a genre limited to fans has been broken.

As all the mentioned three groups are known to specialize in performances and stage transformations, which are considered the signature of K-pop, expectations are high for their appearance to boost recognition of K-pop in the global market and attract new listeners. This will also be an opportunity for them to mark a new milestone in their career.
