Rain was known for suffering a lot due to his difficult family situation before his debut. He attended Anyang Art High School with a dream of becoming a singer, but he had a hard time due to extreme poverty. He debuted in a group but it disbanded after two years without receiving much attention. Rain later caught the eye of Park Jin-young and entered JYP Entertainment as a trainee and debuted as a solo artist.
Rain picked Park Jin-young as the person who gave him a special opportunity on a broadcast in the past. “As you all know, my family was in a bad situation when I was young. My mother was sick when I was 18 years old, but I didn’t have money to pay her hospital fee, so I asked many people for help, but no one helped me,” he recalled.
“My mother was able to live longer if I she could go to the hospital. At the end of the year, I asked Jin-young hyung for help, saying, ‘Please save me. I can’t take my mother to the hospital because I don’t have money.’ As a high school student at the time, it was not even possible for me to be the solidarity,” he said.
Rain said, “At that time, JYP canceled of his my schedules and came to my house, took my mother to the car on his back and drove my mother to the hospital. He gave the hospital a guarantee, so I was able to take my mother to the hospital. Thanks to him, I was able to spend another two weeks with my mother (before she passed away).” At a recent meal with Park, he expressed his gratitude, saying, “Thank you for allowing me to make a living like this,” and added, “It was Park Jin-young who offer his hand to me during the hard times.”
