Chinese idol Justin Huang has become the subject of heated online discussion after a controversial video clip surfaced on September 2.
The footage, which has been widely shared on social media, allegedly shows the 23-year-old casually reclining on a couch in what appears to be a private waiting room. With his phone in one hand, Justin intermittently exhales smoke while holding what looks to be a vape pen.
While vaping is legal in China, the video sparked mixed reactions. Many fans expressed disappointment, noting they had followed Justin since his teenage debut on the hit survival Idol Producer and later in the boy group Nine Percent. To them, seeing him adopt the habit felt disheartening.
However, a growing number of netizens are directing attention away from the act itself and toward how the footage was recorded. With the setting appearing to be backstage or in a restricted area, speculation has mounted that the video may have been captured through a hidden camera.
This possibility has left fans outraged. Social media comments have been filled with demands for stronger protective measures for idols: “It’s his personal choice, but how did someone film him in a private room?” and “Hidden cameras are the real issue here.
