Although the “Jujutsu Kaisen” has a fairly tight-knit storyline, there are still many things left unexplained. Unfortunately, since the manga concluded with chapter 271, nothing can be done about these unresolved matters.
So, let’s take a moment to look back at Jujutsu Kaisen’s entire journey and discuss the mysteries that were never answered.
What Gojo said to Geto before the latter’s death
Gojo and Geto’s friendship is one of the best-written and most emotional parts of “Jujutsu Kaisen”, but also one of the most tragic. They used to be very close, always side by side, until Geto left Jujutsu High to eradicate non-sorcerers.
The two reunited in Jujutsu Kaisen 0 before meeting for the last time, after Geto was defeated by Yuta and escaped to a deserted alley. Knowing that he would have to end the life of his best friend, Gojo said something to Geto that left him surprised.
We don’t know what Gojo said or why it had such an effect on Geto. In both the manga and anime, those words are deliberately kept secret, leaving viewers even more curious.
Was Kaori Itadori a jujutsu sorcerer?
Yuji’s family might be the most intriguing and undeveloped plotline in “Jujutsu Kaisen”. We know that Kenjaku took over Kaori Itadori’s body after her death and obtained her cursed technique. But beyond that, we know nothing about the woman.
Since she had a cursed technique, it’s safe to say she was a jujutsu sorcerer (or a curse user). That’s an interesting prospect, but it also leaves a major plot hole that cannot be overlooked.
The jujutsu community is quite small, and if she was a sorcerer, why hasn’t anyone mentioned her? Considering the fact that her cursed technique is powerful and useful, this can be considered a plot hole.
Does Yuta still have Limitless?
The decision to have Yuta’s soul enter Gojo’s body is said to be one of the worst choices made by Gege Akutami. It didn’t add anything impactful to the story and opened up a lot of plot holes. This is especially true after Yuta returned to his own body in chapter 269.
Kenjaku’s cursed technique allowed Yuta to use both Six Eyes and Limitless. But now that he’s back in his body, how has his power changed? Six Eyes is a rare power inherited within the Gojo clan, so it can’t be transferred. But what about Limitless?
Since Kenjaku could retain the techniques of previous bodies, Yuta should still have Limitless. However, we never see any hint of this. It’s never explained or even made clear in the story.
Who is the woman in Sukuna’s vision?
While the ending of Jujutsu Kaisen wasn’t well-received by many fans, most agree that Sukuna’s scene was the best part of the final chapter. It gave the iconic villain a fitting send-off and revealed another side of his character. However, the frames also raised a question.
In chapter 271, Sukuna encounters Mahito in a void after his death and discusses his motivations with the curse. As he talks about having two paths to choose from, he sees two people representing each route.
One is Uraume, while the other is a mysterious woman who turned her back to him. The chapter doesn’t explain who this woman is or her connection to Sukuna, but judging by the context, it’s clear she is an important figure in the King of Curses’ life.
The merger that never happened
This unconcluded plotline in “Jujutsu Kaisen” is the most frustrating because the merger was supposed to be the final obstacle for the heroes to overcome, yet it never took place. In fact, it’s the very reason why Kenjaku started the Culling Game.
The manga never clearly explains what the merger is, only that it aims to eliminate humanity’s weak (mainly non-sorcerers). It was so important to Kenjaku that he killed his old friend Tengen and passed the merger’s access to Sukuna before dying.
But the merger never happens, as the Shinjuku Showdown arc ends shortly after Sukuna’s death.
How did Takaba come back to life, and who was the man with him?
While “Jujutsu Kaisen” is known for killing off major characters, it did a complete 180 in its final chapters. Higuruma, who was presumed dead, was revealed to be alive, and so was Takaba.
Takaba supposedly died during the Shinjuku Showdown arc after battling Kenjaku, who was then killed by Yuta. However, without any explanation, Takaba is shown to be alive in chapter 270.
Not only that, but there is another person with him who resembles Kenjaku (in Geto’s body).
What happened to the three great clans?
Although there are three great clans in the jujutsu society, we never get to see them all properly. The only clan Jujutsu Kaisen focused on was the Zenin clan, while the Gojo and Kamo clans mostly stayed in the shadows.
The Zenin clan was completely wiped out by Maki, leaving only Megumi and her as the last surviving members. Even after Jujutsu Kaisen’s conclusion, we still don’t know what happened to the Gojo and Kamo clans.
How did Yuta bring Rika back?
Now that Jujutsu Kaisen has ended, we can confidently say that Yuta Okkotsu is one of the most outstanding characters in the series. Not only was he a fantastic protagonist in Jujutsu Kaisen 0, but he also played a key role in the manga’s final arc. However, there are some questions about Yuta that the manga doesn’t answer satisfactorily.
After the battle with Geto, Rika no longer existed as a curse. It was a beautiful ending, closing the story of Yuta and her properly. However, when Yuta reappeared in the manga’s sequel, he brought the cursed Rika with him.
The manga never explains how she returned as a cursed spirit when she had been freed. Instead, she was used somewhat as a plot device, helping Yuta return to his body after the Shinjuku Showdown.
The real parents of Yuji
As we’ve discussed, “Jujutsu Kaisen” has a tendency to introduce intriguing plot points before completely abandoning them. One such instance is Yuji’s family plotline.
Kenjaku being the “mother” of the protagonist is one of the most shocking twists in the series, but it turns out to be completely irrelevant. Yuji never actually has a proper confrontation with Kenjaku, and his parents don’t contribute anything to his character or the storyline.
By the end of the manga, Yuji still doesn’t know about his parents. As fans, we might hypothesize that he could have known but didn’t care. However, since the story never resolves this, it remains an unsolved mystery in Jujutsu Kaisen.
