Jo Jung-suk & Shin Se-kyung Give Perfect Scores For Their Melo Chemistry In “Captivating the King”

The press conference for tvN’s new Sat-Sun drama “Captivating the King” was held at Ramada Seoul Sindorim Hotel in Guro-gu, Seoul on January 16th. Jo Jung-suk, Shin Se-kyung, Lee Shin-young, Park Ye-young, Jang Young-nam, Lee Gyu-hoe and writer Kim Sun-deok attended the event.

“Captivating the King” is a melo historical drama about the fate of King Yi In, a humble king despite being in a high position, and a woman who captivates him for revenge. Jo Jung-suk plays the role of King Yi In, while Shin Se-kyung portrays Kang Hee-soo, who disguises herself as a man named Kang Mong-woo.

Introducing the drama, the writer said, “Although it is set in the Joseon Dynasty, the characters are fictional and I tried to creatively reinterpret various historical elements from the Joseon era in a way that is easy for viewers to imagine. If you like historical dramas, it could be a nice drama to watch”.

Returning to historical dramas after a long time, Jo Jung-suk shared, “It’s an honor for me to be able to try on these clothes and act. Personally, I think ‘Captivating the King’ will be one of my most memorable projects”.

The romance between Jo Jung-suk and Shin Se-kyung, who enjoy a happy love in the beginning but doubt each other in the second half of the story, is one of the factors that keep viewers looking forward to the drama. Shin Se-kyung said, “In the beginning, when Hee-soo gradually falls in love, there are many light and soft scenes. The overall mood of these scenes is very bright. As the story progresses into the later part, emotional conflicts will intensify from Hee-soo’s point of view. She will face constant internal struggles with various facial expressions. I was able to focus on acting without worrying about any other things thanks to the care and help of people on the set. I always enjoyed the shoot and I had fun filming with the senior (Jo Jung-suk)”.

Jo Jung-suk added, “Acting as Yi In is very difficult. It was not about expressing love all the time, but rather, it was a story of love in which there are doubts and suspicions. We both worked hard to capture those feelings during the shoots and I hope you enjoy the drama.”

When mentioning their strengths, the two also gave scores to their melo chemistry. Jo Jung-suk said, “I’ll give 11 points for our chemistry. 11 points out of 10”. Shin Se-kyung added, “I’ll give 1000 points out of 10”.

Writer Kim shared, “Even though I wrote the script, the actors did so well that I would say I’m the very first fan of this drama. I also like the endings of episodes 1 and 2 would. I have high expectations and hope viewers will find the love story enjoyable”.

“Captivating the King” will premiere at 9:20 p.m. on January 21st.
