Jo In Sung rejected “Descendants Of The Sun”, even “matchmade” Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo

Famous actor Jo In Sung turned down the offer to reunite with Song Hye Kyo in “Descendants Of The Sun”

“Descendants Of The Sun” is among the most legendary K-dramas in the past 10 years, with popularity that reached every corner of the world. However, before Song Joong Ki got the role of male lead Yoo Shi Jin, many other famous actors were offered the role, only to refuse for a variety of reasons. Jo In Sung was among one such actor, and his reason is also special.

In particular, at the time “Descendants Of The Sun” is produced, Jo In Sung is already a Hallyu star, and he has previously worked with Song Hye Kyo in the hit series “That Winter, The Wind Blows”. However, the actor ended up rejecting the offer for “Descendants Of The Sun” despite not being too busy, and the reason cited is that he did not want to film overseas.

However, Jo In Sung was the one that recommended Song Joong Ki to the production crew, leading to the iconic Song-Song couple on the screen. Prior to Jo In Sung’s recommendation, it seems that the “Descendants Of The Sun” team originally aimed for more masculined and ragged people, instead of Song Joong Ki, who at the time, was known for being a “flower boy”. The script is eventually adjusted to have the male lead more suitable for Song Joong Ki, and the personality of the second male lead also ended up changing, leading to Jin Goo getting this role. 

As for the reason why Jo In Sung referred Song Joong Ki to this huge success, the actor is close with Song Joong Ki in real life, and believes in his acting ability. He is also considered the indirect “matchmaker” of the Song Song couple, as he was the one that orchestrated their first meeting. In particular, the two met on the set of “That Winter, The Wind Blows” in 2013, and eventually got married after “Descendants Of The Sun”. While their marriage did not have a happy ending, both Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo still lead extremely admirable careers. Meanwhile, despite missing out on the massive hit “Descendants Of The Sun”, Jo In Sung is still a top star in Korea.
