On September 16, the YouTube channel “Song Seung Hwan’s Wonderful Life” uploaded an episode titled “Singer Jeong Won Kwan Ep. 5”.
Looking back on his career, Jeong shared that he often felt the need to stay on television because it supported his business ventures, admitting that despite the struggle, public recognition helped his work. He recalled long nights and moments of exhaustion, but also a determination not to step away from the spotlight.
Speaking about his work in management, Jeong revealed that in the early 2000s, his company represented around 20 comedians, including Jung Sun Hee, Kim Jin Soo, Go Myung Hwan, Moon Chun Shik, and Son Hun Soo. Before that, alongside fellow Sobangcha member Kim Tae Hyung, he had produced NRG.
However, the sudden death of NRG’s youngest member, Kim Hwan Sung, changed everything. “After the release of the first album, one of the NRG members suddenly passed away. It was sepsis. He had caught a cold, then had his wisdom teeth removed, developed an infection, and within just three days, he was gone,” Jeong recalled with sorrow. The incident led him to step back from entertainment management for a time.

Kim Hwan Sung first debuted in 1996 with the group Kkebi Kkebi before re-debuting with NRG in 1997, where he quickly rose to stardom. On June 15, 2000, he tragically passed away after being hospitalized with cold symptoms. Within three days, his condition deteriorated into high fever and respiratory failure, leaving him brain-dead before he ultimately passed away. His sudden death at such a young age sent shockwaves through the Korean entertainment industry.
Following his passing, NRG continued promotions as a four-member group.
