Jeon Somi is officially stepping into Hollywood.
During her appearance on Radio Star, the singer revealed that she has been cast in a leading role for an upcoming Hollywood feature film, marking her first major acting project on the global stage.
Somi shared that she received the audition offer while promoting her songs “CLOSER” and “EXTRA.” After successfully passing the audition, she traveled to Thailand in October last year.
“I was cast and went to Thailand to film for about two months,” she said, confirming that production has already wrapped.
The film, titled Perfect Girl, is described as a psychological thriller set within the K-pop idol selection process.
When asked about her role, Somi hinted at its significance: “I’m in the top three,” she said, implying a lead-level character central to the storyline.
The project features a diverse international lineup, including:
- Arden Cho, who also serves as a co-producer
- Adeline Rudolph
Arden Cho previously shared that Somi was personally invited to audition, explaining: “Casting only Asian-American actors wouldn’t fully capture K-pop culture, so we wanted someone authentic. Somi delivered a perfect audition.”
The film is directed by Hong Won Ki and produced by Badlands and Thunder Road Films.
Somi, known for her unique background as the daughter of a Dutch-Canadian father and Korean mother, has built a strong identity in the K-pop industry. Her transition into acting reflects a growing trend of idols expanding into global entertainment markets.
Her father, Matthew Douma, also appeared in the K-drama Descendants of the Sun, adding an interesting connection to her acting journey.
According to Somi, Perfect Girl is currently in post-production and is expected to be released later this year or early next year.
