Japanese model and actress Megumi Furuya has passed away at the age of 47 after a prolonged battle with stage‑four colorectal cancer. Her management agency confirmed the news, sharing that her funeral was held privately on December 19, 2025 in accordance with the family’s wishes.
In an official statement, the agency expressed deep sorrow over her passing, saying, “From the very beginning, she devoted herself fully to treatment and fought bravely against her illness. The time we spent together with Megumi Furuya is an irreplaceable and precious memory. We are heartbroken by her loss.”

In recent years, Furuya had stepped back from modeling activities and focused on running an Italian restaurant with her husband. Despite her quieter life away from the spotlight, she remained in close contact with her agency and was remembered fondly by colleagues for her kindness, thoughtfulness, and warm personality.
In December 2022, Furuya revealed on her personal social media that she had been diagnosed with stage‑four colorectal cancer. She paused her professional work to concentrate on treatment and often shared updates about her daily life and health journey with fans. Her final post on X (formerly Twitter) was uploaded on October 28 last year, which also coincided with her birthday.

In that message, she wrote, “Good morning everyone. Even though I live with pain, I managed to get through the past two weeks relatively peacefully. Tomorrow I have another hospital appointment and a CT scan oh dear! My husband looked quite worried this morning as I kept groaning from leg cramps. I enjoyed the sake lees soup he made for my birthday. I’m 47 now.”
Standing at 1.78 meters tall, Megumi Furuya was a prominent figure in the Japanese fashion industry. She appeared in major magazines such as Elle, Ryujin Tsushin, Soen, and Glow, and walked the runway for numerous fashion brands. Beyond modeling, she also featured in television commercials for Tokyo Gas and Naris Cosmetics.
