On May 22, Jang Hyun-seung posted an apology through a fan platform, addressing the issue directly. “I’m sorry for causing discomfort and disappointment due to an expression that came from my carelessness and lack of awareness during communication last night, as well as the attitude I showed afterward,” he said.

The controversy began when Jang Hyun-seung was talking with fans on a paid communication platform. During the conversation, he mentioned the term “angimotti” while discussing “yar,” a slang expression popular among younger users. The problem was that “angimotti” has been used with an obscene meaning on Ilbe, a far-right online community in South Korea. After seeing his message, some fans warned him not to use the term, saying it was connected to a site known for mocking the deceased.

However, Jang Hyun-seung’s initial response made the backlash worse. According to the report, he replied, “Even if I get criticized, I won’t delete it,” and later added, “How would I know that? I’ll delete it, but if you’re uncomfortable, leave. Don’t overinterpret it.”

As criticism spread, Jang Hyun-seung apologized and admitted he had not properly understood how the expression could be used or received. “I used the expression carelessly without fully recognizing what meaning it could have and how it could be accepted. Regardless of my intention, I should have been more careful, and I’m sorry,” he said.

He also reflected on his attitude after fans raised concerns. “I took the concerns about the remark too lightly, and instead of fully acknowledging my mistake, I tried to explain my position and insisted on it. I am reflecting a lot,” he continued.

Jang Hyun-seung ended by saying the incident taught him once again how much responsibility comes with the words and attitude he uses in public communication. “Through this incident, I deeply realized once again how much responsibility my words and attitude carry. From now on, I will be more careful and responsible in all communication,” he said.

The apology is now drawing attention as fans continue to discuss both the original remark and his response after being warned.
