IVE Jang Won-young’s ‘Sojang’ Investigation Selected As Example Criminal Case
The investigation team that successfully sent the case of ‘Sojang’ defaming Jang Won-young to court received compliments
On June 26th, the Supreme Prosecutors’ Office announced that they had selected Lee Ah-ram (6th bar exam) and Kwak Ye-shin (7th bar exam) from the Incheon District Prosecutors’ Office Criminal Division 1 as examples for outstanding criminal cases.
The two prosecutors took over the cases of three victims, including Jang Won-young, and found evidence proving ‘Sojang’ operator A had continued doing cyber wrecker activities. They conducted supplementary investigations, including a search and seizure of the residence and tracking A’s bank account.
Later, A was indicted on charges of defamation, and the real estate A purchased with the profits from YouTube was also seized to prevent them from disposing of it.
The Supreme Prosecutors’ Office explained, “This case clearly revealed the crime of cyber wreckers, such as professionally creating fake news, altering voices, and editing footage to produce and spread videos that were malicious and provocative to defame several victims. These acts attracted a lot of views and generated money from memberships, leading to big profits of 250 million won within a short time. This investigation is an example of a strong response to new crime”.
A is accused of defaming celebrities, including Jang Won-young, influencers, and entertainment agencies, by posting videos with slandering content on the YouTube channel ‘Sojang’ from October 2021 to June last year. The channel has been deleted.
During the third trial of the lawsuit filed by Jang Won-young’s agency on the 19th, A presented an absurd claim that the prosecution was manipulating the media to create a negative image of them.
