Many people have voiced criticisms over IVE Jang Won-young’s attitude on stage. They argued that she didn’t perform the choreography accurately.
On December 12th, an article titled “Jang Won-young didn’t dance properly” was posted on an online community. A video of IVE singing their debut song “Eleven” on KBS Music Bank on December 3rd was attached.
The video showed IVE presenting a powerful performance in the intro of “Eleven”. However, unlike the other 5 members, Jang Won-young only turned her head slightly in the part in which she was supposed to shake her head intensely.
The same happened when it came to the main choreography of “Eleven” after the introduction. There was a part when IVE members had to lie on the floor then stand up after making a big head shake. However, Jang Won-young didn’t do the dance properly.
After watching this video, many netizens agreed that Jang Won-young didn’t pay attention to the dance. Some commented on Jang Won-young’s stage attitude as “lack sincerity” and “lack of professionalism”. Unlike Jang Won-young, Internet users praised Ahn Yu-jin for performing the choreography accurately. Ahn Yu-jin and Jang Won-young were members of the project group IZ*ONE, which debuted in 2018.
On the other hand, there were also comments defending Jang Won-young. One netizen pointed out that Jang Won-young didn’t dance properly because of her hairstyle and said, “This is the first time she is involved in a problem related to attitude, but there is no need to criticize her.”
Prior to Jang Won-young, ITZY, a group that has recently been active in Japan, was also criticized for dancing “too lightly” while promoting in that country. On Dec 1st, a number of posts were posted on the large Japanese communities 5ch and Twitter, saying, “Unlike what ITZY showed in Korea, they dance too lightly here.”
In addition, Jessica, a former member of Girls’ Generation, was also criticized for not properly performing the head banging choreography when the group was promoting “I Got A Boy” in 2013.
Meanwhile, Jang Won-young, born in 2004 and is currently 17 years old, made her face known through Mnet’s “Produce 48” in 2018. She made her debut as a part of IZ*ONE after claiming the #1 chair on the program, and since the end of her IZ*ONE activities, she has re-debuted with the group IVE on Dec 1st and has been actively promoting with their first single “ELEVEN”.
