Singer and actress IU is taking an unexpected break after facing a series of personal and professional challenges, including the end of her long-term relationship, an ongoing legal campaign against online trolls, and worsening health issues that have forced her to postpone both a major concert and her upcoming album.
On July 20, IU announced through her official fan platform that she would be canceling her concert at Goyang Stadium, originally scheduled for September. Explaining the decision, she revealed that her long-standing patulous Eustachian tube condition has recently worsened, making it increasingly difficult for her to maintain her usual vocal performance while singing.

Her agency, EDAM Entertainment, also confirmed that IU’s recovery would be the top priority and announced that both the concert and the release schedule for her sixth full-length album would be adjusted. IU reassured fans that medical specialists had advised her to avoid physically demanding performances that involve heavy activity and excessive sweating for the time being. She added that the condition is not life-threatening and that she plans to dedicate the next several months to treatment and rest before returning fully prepared. Because the new album was closely tied to the planned concert tour, postponing its release was considered unavoidable.
The announcement came just ten days after IU publicly confirmed the end of her relationship with actor Lee Jong Suk. On July 10, both stars’ agencies stated that the two had decided to remain supportive colleagues rather than continue their romantic relationship. Having first met as music show hosts in 2012 before eventually becoming a couple, they had been regarded as one of the Korean entertainment industry’s most beloved long-term celebrity couples. However, both sides explained that their demanding schedules ultimately led them to part ways.

Despite dealing with the emotional impact of the breakup, IU has continued to take a firm stance against malicious online comments and false rumors. According to legal sources on July 15, her legal team filed a discovery request with the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, seeking information from Meta to identify the operator of anonymous Threads accounts responsible for defamatory content.
The legal request reportedly aims to obtain identifying information related to 52 posts containing false statements and defamatory claims. Reports indicate that the anonymous user mocked national tragedies by referencing IU’s hit songs, including Strawberry Moon and Ah Puh, while also spreading baseless political accusations. IU’s representatives have maintained that they intend to pursue the matter to the fullest extent of the law without offering settlements or leniency.

After years of maintaining an exceptionally busy schedule, IU now finds herself facing three major challenges at once: recovering from a personal breakup, pursuing legal action against online harassment, and focusing on her health. Although fans will have to wait a little longer to see her back on stage, many have flooded social media with messages of encouragement, expressing hope that she will make a full recovery and return stronger than ever after taking the time she needs to rest and recharge.
