On August 14, IU’s YouTube channel uploaded a video titled “For Gwan-sik (BO GUM’s Friday)”, which included footage from her surprise appearance on Park Bo-gum’s Cantabile. In the video, when asked about receiving the Best Actress award for her performance in Netflix’s hit series When Life Gives You Tangerines alongside Park Bo-gum, she replied, “I had such a fun time and really enjoyed the event.”
When asked if she was nervous during her acceptance speech, IU explained, “Our team joked that maybe we’d all get on stage together if ‘When Life Gives You Tangerines’ won Best Drama, and we even thought it might win the Grand Prize. But usually, if a drama gets the Grand Prize, its lead actors don’t get Best Actress or Best Actor, so I put my bet on the drama winning instead.” She admitted she was stunned when both the Grand Prize and Best Actress awards went their way: “I was so surprised. I thought I was developing stage fright—I don’t think I’ve ever been that nervous before.”
When the production team said “The fans were surprised because they were seeing IU like that for the first time” , IU confessed, “I was the most surprised.”
The video also showed Park Bo-gum’s reaction to IU’s surprise visit to his show. “I’m really thankful. I had no idea,” he said, clearly moved. After the filming, IU expressed her joy at pulling off the surprise, saying, “It’s always so chaotic to surprise someone, but seeing how happy Bo-gum was made it all worth it. I’m also very grateful to the audience who stayed until the very end.”
