Investigative Agency Issues Non-Prosecution Decision in IU’s Plagiarism Case: “Malicious Accusation”

Investigative agency rejects plagiarism accusations against IU, citing insufficient evidence

On September 4th, IU‘s reps announced that the investigative agency had decided not to proceed with her plagiarism accusation case in which a citizen accused her of plagiarizing another singer’s song and violating copyright law.

The law firm representing IU stated through a press release on the same day, “The investigative agency made a non-prosecution decision last month on August 24th, citing that the accusation did not constitute a crime.

The law firm explained, “Among the six songs that IU was accused of, she only participated in the composition of one song, and even in that case, the part in question regarding copyright infringement was not the part IU was involved in.”

The law firm continued, “We submitted evidence and attorney opinions to the investigative agency regarding these facts. And as a result, a non-prosecution decision was made.”

They added, “We consider this accusation to be a malicious act aimed at damaging IU’s reputation and causing mental distress, without even meeting the minimum legal requirements and grounds.”

They urged the investigative agency to actively investigate whether the accuser should be held liable for false accusation.

Legal actions against those who have spread rumors of IU’s plagiarism online were also announced. The law firm stated, “It has been confirmed that a specific group of people has been spreading various rumors for years with the purpose of hating on IU and subjecting them to personal insults.”
