Impressive milestones of BlackPink in 2020

In 2020, despite being influenced by Covid-19, BlackPink still has many musical activities and has established impressive achievements.

Release the first full album: On September 22, YG started to release individual teaser photos of BlackPink members to promote their first full album, The Album.

Jisoo is the one that started the series, followed by Jennie, Lisa and Rosé. BlackPink’s new image received many compliments from the audiences.

On September 25, BlackPink suddenly revealed part of the upcoming album, BLACKPINK presents The Album. The gift was released in the form of an exclusive playlist selected by BlackPink, accompanied by a series of introductory videos of each member.

Cooperation with Selena Gomez: Before releasing their first full album, BlackPink had an interesting combination with Selena Gomez in MV Ice Cream, released on August 28. Ice Cream is a song with a playful melodies, suitable for the summer atmosphere. The audience praised BlackPink for their sophisticated and beautiful outfits in the MV. “Ice Cream” premiered on August 28 where it quickly garnered 10 million views in under three hours, breaking the previous record of fastest girl group to reach 10 million views. This MV also was pacing to be the fastest video in YouTube history to hit 100 million views (only after 1 day 8 hours and 22 minutes), broke BTS’s Boy With Luv record set in the past (1 day, 13 hours and 38 minutes).

Blackpink had set a series of impressive records. “How You Like That” had hit No. 1 on iTunes Top Songs charts in at least 60 different regions including the United States—a number that had since climbed to 64—setting a new all-time record for girl groups. The track also debuted on the realtime chart of Korea’s largest music site Melon at No. 1, making it the first girl group song to go straight to the top of the chart in about two years. It also recorded just over 100,000 unique listeners in the first hour of its release, the highest number in history for a girl group.

Cooperation with Lady Gaga: On May 29, Lady Gaga and Blackpink teamed up to release “Sour Candy,” the latest single off of Lady Gaga’s upcoming “Chromatica”. This song had hit No. 1 on iTunes Top Songs charts in 57 countries and regions, less than 24 hours after release.

According to Mydaily, media and fans rated the song of good quality, as “a product combining one of the most influential and successful Western artists of all time with an K-pop supergroup “. Meanwhile, Billboard assessed that Sour Candy had an outstanding melody and catchy chorus that attracted listeners
