On November 25, TV Asahi held its regular press conference at its headquarters in Roppongi, Tokyo, during which it officially addressed the departure of actress Imamori Maya (19) from the cast of No.1 Sentai Gozyuger. This marked the first public statement by the network regarding the controversy.
Imamori had portrayed Ichikawa Sumino, also known as Gozyu Unicorn, in the Sunday morning superhero series that airs at 9:30 AM. On November 8, the show’s official website announced her removal following reports that she consumed alcohol while under the legal drinking age of 20. That same day, her management agency terminated her contract. On November 15, the network revealed that Shida Kohaku (21) would take over the role starting from episode 40, airing November 30.
TV Asahi President Nishiara expressed deep regret over the incident, stating: “This is a program intended for children, so we find the occurrence of such an issue extremely regrettable. We will take this seriously, implement strict measures to prevent recurrence, and strengthen compliance efforts. We sincerely apologize for causing great concern to viewers and all involved parties.”
Addressing whether the network would pursue compensation from Imamori or her agency, Nishiara confirmed, “At present, we are not considering any such action.”
On the topic of preventing underage drinking among actors, he emphasized, “Ultimately, it comes down to the individual’s awareness.” However, he also added, “Given the actors are involved in casting and filming over the course of an entire year, we as a production company will provide proper guidance and training at appropriate times.”
Imamori debuted in 2023 with a swimsuit pictorial for Weekly Playboy magazine and went on to win the Grand Prix at Miss Magazine 2023. In February 2025, she made headlines as the first Black-suited female warrior in Super Sentai history through her role in Gozyuger.
Separately, in September, tabloid reports surfaced alleging romantic entanglements involving Imamori both with a co-star and a professional soccer player.
