ILLIT and LE SSERAFIM’s Public Image Can No Longer Be Saved, Said Netizens

A vote regarding the current public image of girl groups ILLIT and LE SSERAFIM has shown a shockingly one-sided result.

On the afternoon of May 13, a topic titled “100,000 people on YouTube voted on the images of ILLIT and LE SSERAFIM” was published on the Korean forum “theqoo”. Within mere hours, the topic has attracted over 40,000 views and almost 400 comments, showing strong public interest.

According to this topic, a poll voted on by 100,000 people on the video platform YouTube shows that 87% believed that ILLIT’s public image can no longer be saved, while this figure for LE SSERAFIM is 89%.

This is likely due to ILLIT’s copying controversy with NewJeans, and LE SSERAFIM’s past remarks and poor live-singing skills in recent performances. Additionally, the HYBE-ADOR feud, along with accusations of NewJeans being treated poorly compared to ILLIT and LE SSERAFIM, has added fire to the fuel.

Regarding this shockingly one-sided result, Korean netizens on theqoo show a strong agreement. However, many believed that even though the two groups are being criticized now, their music will still go viral.

Below are some of their comments:

  • BIGBANG’s public image was like this too, but everyone listened to the song.
  • I’m not a fan of HYBE either, but regardless of their public image, I don’t think there’s any problem with them doing well… They have overseas fans, and I don’t think the people that directly increase their sales will care anyway.
  • Some mentioned BIGBANG, but if you want to overcome bad public images, you need to have good skills to back it. That’s not the case for these groups
  • HYBE needs to let go of NewJeans already
