“I can’t tolerate it anymore” Hwang Jung-eum sued for defamation by woman mistaken as her husband’s affair partner
During her ongoing divorce proceedings, Hwang Jung-eum exposed her husband Lee Young-don's affair but mistakenly identified an innocent woman as the adulterous woman, leading to a defamation lawsuit against her
On June 22nd, Seoul Nowon Police Station announced that a defamation complaint was filed against Hwang on June 20th.
A said, “Hwang Jung-eum‘s side halved the settlement amount and proposed to pay it in two installments. I accepted everything because money wasn’t the main issue.”
However, the settlement agreement presented by Hwang Jung-eum’s side caused problems. The agreement lacked an acknowledgment from Hwang that she had defamed and insulted the victim.
Additionally, A complained, “The agreement included an unreasonable clause stating that if the victim violated the settlement terms, they would have to pay double the settlement amount.”
A expressed doubt about Hwang Jung-eum’s sincerity in her apology, feeling that she was being treated as someone only interested in the settlement money. A said, “I couldn’t tolerate it anymore and decided to file a lawsuit.“
Previously, Hwang Jung-eum posted on SNS, “You ugly girl. Please marry Young-don. Can’t you just divorce me and go to Bangkok?” She shared A’s post about a trip to Bangkok, which included a message thanking Lee Young-don.
Although Hwang Jung-eum quickly deleted the post, it had already spread online, revealing A’s identity. A clarified that it was a misunderstanding due to the nickname “Lee Young-don” and demanded an apology from Hwang Jung-eum.
On April 4th, Hwang Jung-eum’s agency Y-ONE ENTERTAINMENT issued an apology, stating, “We sincerely apologize to all those affected by Hwang Jung-eum’s personal SNS post.“
The agency continued, “Hwang Jung-eum deeply regrets the incident caused by her negligence, and we take full responsibility. We sincerely ask for the public’s understanding and refrain from further speculation and malicious comments.”
They clarified “The person Hwang Jung-eum identified as the affair partner has no connection to her husband” and requested that any posts containing personal information be deleted to prevent further harm.
Meanwhile, Hwang Jung-eum announced her second divorce lawsuit against Lee Young-don in February.
