Hyuna, Hani, Kwon Eunbi, Soyou, Solar: Female Stars Who Went On Extreme Diet To The Point Of Collapsing

Singer Hyuna surprised everyone by confessing her extreme diet.

In the latest episode of MBC’s “Point of Omniscient Interference,” which aired on May 11th, Hyuna appeared as a guest, along with a manager who has been working with her for 12 years.

The manager showed concern for Hyuna’s changed behavior, saying, “She has been on a diet for a while. She hasn’t eaten instant noodles, but often drinks soda, energy drinks, and alcohol since a year ago.”

Hyuna recalled the tough times due to diet in the past. “I gained 5 kilograms in the past four months. I didn’t eat much food before. I think I had a compulsion to be skinny,” she said. “When I filmed a commercial, I skipped a week and ate after filming. Now I can’t do that.” Hyuna recalled eating a slice of pizza for two hours.

Also, Hyuna said, “At that time, I had an obsession. I thought that I wanted to prettt, and I had to look perfect. It should not have been the standard, but I think I had such an obsession because I got attention for my body. In the past, I went on stage after eating a roll of kimbap, and I had low blood pressure and fell to 40kg.”

Hyuna continued, “I wanted to have a pretty body because I wanted to do well on stage, but I fainted on stage instead. I fainted 12 times a month. People around me worried, and I thought, ‘I can’t do this,’ so I changed my lifestyle and gained weight. I gained 8kg. I’m much healthier and more comfortable,” she said.

Hyuna is not the only idol group that confessed going through such excessive diet. “I don’t go on a diet anymore,” said Hani, a member of EXID who appeared on SBS’s “Strong Heart VS” on April 9. Hani said, “I was obsessive about taking care of my body shape. I was about 50kg during the promotion period. I was underweight then. I was not healthy. My body shape was “good” back then, but it was a problem. Now I think it’s okay even though it’s “not bad.”

Last year, Soyou of SISTAR also shared, “I was obsessed with diet when I was a girl group member.” “I was skinny when I debuted, but I missed the right time to eat at events, so I ate snacks in the car and suddenly gained weight. I was shocked to see that I weighed 56 kilograms,” Soyou said. “I ate four quail eggs in a day, worked out for two hours in the morning, danced and worked out again since it was unimaginable number for idols. I lost 8 kilograms in less than a month.”

Kwon Eun-bi, a former member of IZ*ONE who also appeared on the same show, also said, “When I was a trainee, I had the opportunity to make a debut so I had to lose weight. I sliced an apple in the morning at the dorm and ate only three slices each, three apples a day. On the day we had to weigh ourselves after the monthly evaluation, I went to the bathroom and spit constantly, and in the evening, I went to the sauna and sweated,” referring to the terrible diet method.

Most idols have to manage their bodies while working on their schedules at the same time during busy activities, so they have chosen an extreme diet method and abuse and manage their bodies most of the time. This inevitably leads to poor health.

On a show, Solar of MAMAMOO shared she eventually went to the emergency room. “She had to take food suppression and collapsed twice. She had to eat something before that, but she skipped meals and collapsed at the station,” member Wheein shared.
