Hyuna and her Drama-Filled Love Life

The recent news of Hyuna dating former HIGHLIGHT’s Junhyung has shocked netizens. Before they officially became an item, the two were labelmates under CUBE Entertainment, with Junhyung featuring in Hyuna’s solo hit track, “Change.”

Hyuna’s ex-boyfriend Dawn was also under Cube. Their relationship stirred up quite the media storm.

Dating rumors between Hyuna and Dawn were sparked when the two displayed realistic romantic scenes in Triple H’s MV and even on stage. Cube Entertainment quickly shot down the rumors, calling them “baseless,” but Hyuna took matters into her own hands, stepping up to publicly confirm the relationship.

In an exclusive statement, Hyuna and Dawn told Yonhap News, “We’ve been dating for 2 years.” Sources reveal that they started dating in May 2016, even before Dawn officially debuted with PENTAGON.

Opening up about their love story, Hyuna said: “I’ve known Dawn since our trainee days, and as we performed on the same stage, we naturally got closer. From friends, we started dating in May 2016. Then, we continued making music together while keeping our relationship low-key. We’re careful about our relationship.”

The Aftermath for the Couple

Hyuna and Dawn then left Cube together. And to make it more surprising, Cube Entertainment announced the two idols’ departure using somewhat harsh words.

“Hello. This is Cube Entertainment.

Cube Entertainment has officially decided to remove the names of artists Hyuna and E’Dawn (former stage name of Dawn) from the company.

We have made every effort to work with our artists under the company, managing them with utmost loyalty and trust in our relationship.

After much discussion, it is painful for us to conclude that rebuilding loyalty and trust between us and the two artists, Hyuna and E’Dawn, would be extremely challenging. Therefore, we have decided to terminate their contracts and ask them to leave the company.

We sincerely thank the fans who have been with these two artists throughout this time.”

After leaving the company, both Hyuna and Dawn decided to sign a contract together with PSY’s P Nation and released a series of collaborative as well as solo projects. The song “Ping Pong” that the duo worked on together was well-received by the audience. However, after some time, both of them also left P Nation and officially parted ways.

The repercussions extend to a whole music group.

Hyuna, Dawn, and even CUBE are not the ones bearing the heaviest consequences of the dating news; it’s PENTAGON, Dawn’s former group.

Before the dating scandal, the boy group was gaining a lot of attention with their MV “Shine,” which reached nearly 300 million views, and they were preparing for a comeback with a new mini-album titled “Thumbs Up!”. The dating news of the former member caused a drastic drop in the group’s album sales and digital music rankings.

PENTAGON was enjoying popularity with “Shine” that Dawn’s dating scandal broke out

Adding fuel to the fire, on the 2nd anniversary of PENTAGON’s debut (10/10), Hyuna posted pictures of her dating Dawn and received over 2 million likes. Many fans questioned the true purpose behind Hyuna’s action of posting dating photos with Dawn. Some asserted that she might be challenging public opinions after all the criticism they faced for publicly acknowledging their relationship. However, others believed that Hyuna’s target audience was PENTAGON’s fans, and it seemed like she wanted to prove that they were both still very happy, living their lives regardless of how vehemently some fans opposed their relationship or even boycotted them.

Despite their efforts, PENTAGON couldn’t revive their reputation.

From this point on, despite continuous comeback efforts, PENTAGON’s name no longer holds the same prominence, and the group becomes quite lackluster in the K-pop market. On the 7th anniversary of their debut, CUBE announced that the contracts of five PENTAGON members, including Yeoone, Yanan, Yuto, Kino, and Wooseok, had expired. All five members decided not to renew their contracts with the company.

After the announcement was made, members Yeoone and Kino reassured fans about this decision. They affirmed that they would continue to be members of PENTAGON, and the group would not disband.
