“The time and procedure of the members’ enlistment have not been decided yet”, HYBE stated regarding BTS’s military service issue.
At the IR Conference Call held on the morning of August 3rd, HYBE said, “There is still no set time or procedure for BTS’s enlistment”.
They continued, “Individual activities and group activities will be carried out at the same time. Individual activities have been planned with solo albums, and group activities include their performances in Busan (part of their activities as promotional ambassadors for Busan’s World Expo) in October. Other activities will be announced as soon as the time and procedure of BTS’s enlistment are decided.”
Earlier at the plenary session of the National Assembly’s National Defense Committee on August 1st, Defense Minister Lee Jong-sub said, “There will be a way to give an opportunity to those who are fulfilling their military service to practice and perform in foreign countries if there is an overseas performing schedule”, adding “Many people have high evaluations for military service, but I think it can do some help to their popularity”.
Lee Ki-sik, head of the Military Manpower Administration, also said, “The addition of popular culture and arts personnel could break the overall framework of military service exemption system. That’s why were are considering the issue carefully.”
An official from the Ministry of National Defense said in a broadcast on Channel A, which aired on August 1st, “Allowing BTS to perform does not mean a reconstruction of the entertainment soldiers system”, adding “Just as actors are selected for musical performances organized by the military, the purpose is to give BTS a fair opportunity to perform if they are selected”.
Meanwhile, HYBE officially announced their second-quarter performance at the IR Conference Call. Accordingly, HYBE achieved 512.2 billion won in sales and 88.3 billion won in operating profit in the second quarter of 2022. Their sales performance increased by 83.8% and operating profit rose by 215.3% compared to the records in the same period last year. Both sales and operating profit reached their all-time highs in this quarter. Net profit was revealed to be 93 billion won, which is an up of 359.3% year-on-year.
