Hwasa summoned for investigation on indecent performance last month, police reviewing relevant information 

An update on the controversy over the indecent performance of MAMAMOO Hwasa has been revealed

According to Yonhap News Agency on September 10th, Seoul Seongdong Police Station already summoned Hwasa (real name Ahn Hye Jin) as a defendant at the end of last month and questioned her about the intention and background of her controversial performance.

Earlier in May, Hwasa performed at Sungkyunkwan University Festival as part of the filming for tvN’s program “Dancing Queens on the Road”. While performing the song “Don’t Give”, she made a provocative gesture of licking her finger and touching a sensitive body part.

Shortly after the festival, videos of the performance spread online, sparking controversy over sensationalism, and the stage was eventually not shown in “Dancing Queens on the Road”. Later in June, the Parents’ Association for the Protection of Students’ Human Rights filed a complaint against Hwasa due to her obscene performance. 

Regarding the summon, the police said, “We have summoned the accuser and Hwasa one after another for questioning and are currently collecting relevant information from her management agency and other sources to review whether the controversial performance is subject to criminal punishment.”

Performing an indecent stage where an unspecified number of people can witness can be subject to public obscenity. If convicted, Hwasa may face imprisonment of up to one year, a fine of up to 5 million won, detention, or detention.

Meanwhile, Hwasa debuted as a member of MAMAMOO in 2014. With her excellent singing ability, she has released various solo hit songs, such as “TWIT” and “Maria”. Hwasa recently made headlines when she signed an exclusive contract with Psy’s agency P NATION.
