Hwang Ha Na (37), the granddaughter of the founder of Namyang Dairy Products, appeared in court on December 26 for a pre-arrest warrant hearing after being arrested following a period of fleeing overseas while under investigation for drug-related charges.

Hwang, who had been detained at the Anyang Dongan Police Station in Gyeonggi Province, arrived at the Anyang branch of the Suwon District Court at around 10:30 a.m. in a transport vehicle. She was seen wearing a thick gray padded jacket, with the hood pulled up and her face covered by a white mask.

She did not respond to reporters’ questions, including whether she admitted to the charges, whether she had used drugs in Thailand or Cambodia, whether she fled to avoid the investigation, or how she obtained the drugs, and entered the courthouse in silence.

According to an MBN report on December 24, Hwang Ha Na, the granddaughter of Namyang Dairy Products’ founder, who had been under an Interpol red notice for methamphetamine purchase and use, entered South Korea at approximately 7:50 a.m. on a flight departing from Cambodia.

Police had already secured an arrest warrant and reportedly executed it around 2 a.m. local time at Phnom Penh International Airport, just before she boarded a Korean airline flight.

The Gyeonggi Gwacheon Police Station has taken Hwang Ha Na into custody and plans to conduct a thorough investigation into the full circumstances of the case, including additional drug-related allegations uncovered during the investigation.

Hwang Ha Na is widely known to the public as the former fiancée of singer and actor Park Yoo Chun, as well as the maternal granddaughter of Namyang Dairy’s founding family. Her name has repeatedly surfaced in high-profile drug scandals over the past several years.

In 2019, Hwang Ha Na was convicted of purchasing and using methamphetamine together with Park Yoo Chun and received a sentence of one year in prison, suspended for two years. In 2020, she was again indicted for violating the Narcotics Control Act and was sentenced to one year and eight months in prison.

Despite these convictions, Hwang Ha Na was once again booked on drug charges last year. However, in mid-February, she abruptly left South Korea for Thailand. Investigators later determined that she had illegally entered Cambodia, where she continued to reside while evading authorities.

During the course of the investigation, police confirmed additional criminal allegations and requested an Interpol red notice, along with consular assistance from local diplomatic missions, to track her whereabouts.

With her return and arrest, attention is now focused on whether Hwang will face further charges and what legal consequences may follow, marking yet another chapter in one of South Korea’s most notorious celebrity drug cases.
