A shocking incident involving a humanoid robot has gone viral in China, after a performance unexpectedly turned dangerous when the machine appeared to lose control and struck a young boy in the audience.
According to local reports, the accident occurred during a public robot dance show in Shaanxi, where a humanoid robot was performing a spinning routine. In the middle of a wide rotational movement, the robot suddenly swung its rigid arm outward, directly hitting a boy standing close to the stage.
“The child immediately covered his face, visibly stunned and frightened,” witnesses described, as the unexpected blow left viewers both alarmed and concerned.
The video quickly spread across Chinese social media platforms, igniting heated debate. Many criticized the lack of basic safety measures at the event, noting that there were no protective barriers separating the audience—especially children—from the heavy, fast-moving machine.
“That must have hurt so much,” one user commented, while another wrote, “It hit him and just kept dancing—this is completely unacceptable.” The phrase “no sense of martial ethics” (“不讲武德”) also trended, reflecting public frustration over the incident.

Experts have pointed out that some commercial humanoid robots prioritize exaggerated movements for visual impact, sometimes at the expense of safety systems such as motion limits and proximity sensors. In cases of malfunction or programming errors, these machines can pose real risks in close-contact environments.
The incident has also reignited discussion about the overall maturity of humanoid robot technology in public spaces. Previous accidents—including robots falling, colliding with people, or malfunctioning during exhibitions—have already raised concerns about whether such technology is ready for widespread live demonstrations.
As criticism continues to mount, many are calling for stricter safety regulations and clearer operational standards to prevent similar incidents in the future. What was meant to showcase technological advancement has instead become a stark reminder of the potential risks when innovation outpaces safety precautions.
